Willow Basketry, an ancient craft with roots dating back to at least 8000 BC, has been passed down through generations. Our ancestors wove willow baskets, which found practical use throughout Ireland and the rest of the world for various tasks. These baskets served as the original eco-friendly, reusable shopping bags long before plastics became ubiquitous.
In this engaging workshop, the award-winning tutors Kate and Alan Burrows will guide you through the art of willow basket making. Their expertise, honed through training in Somerset (UK) and other European countries, ensures a comprehensive learning experience. During the one-day workshop, lasting approximately 4 to 5 hours, Kate and Alan will impart the fundamentals of basketry. By the end of the day, you’ll proudly take home your very own willow basket—a cherished keepsake crafted from natural materials provided in the class.
