About us

Kate and Alan Burrows are full time basket and willow coffin makers and teachers. Since Kate initially learned basket making some 8 years ago, it has become an obsession. We have travelled throughout different countries learning the unique and different styles and techniques from those areas. Since early 2023 we have also started making natural willow coffins.

We create baskets and crafts using the materials that grow around us, including the willow we grow ourselves on our own land, and we offer workshops to teach these traditional techniques.

Our passion is to share our journey and traditions with others by teaching natural crafts that are true to our roots and heritage. We run willow basket workshops throughout Ireland and beyond.  Join us and learn how to create beautiful, functional willow baskets and other natural crafts passed down through the generations.

The beauty of the natural world is all around us and we strive to preserve and share it with others through our work and workshops.

Throughout history, humans have utilized the natural resources that surrounded them to create useful items. Basketry, for instance, has been around since the Neolithic period, even predating pottery and stone carving.

The use of natural materials, such as wood and skins, has played a crucial role in the development of human knowledge and culture. We are based in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, surrounded by willows, rushes and wilderness.
